More on the wines:
2016 Dry Riesling:
Probably our most effective heat-beater wine, this dry Riesling showcases a pungent and piercing aroma of lemongrass, cherimoya, citrus blossoms and rock dust. It drinks with fleeting front-palate richness before zooming off into the territory of citrus and minerality, and then closing with a fine crunch of white tea-like tannin. At this wind-whipped site Riesling is intense; you could call it positively aggressive. On hot, hot days this is just perfect and restorative along with some sushi…
2018 Rosé:
Rosé, too, is another outstanding wine we make for the dog days of Summer. The way we make it, it’s basically a white wine produced using red grapes (which are picked slightly earlier, like white grapes, for refreshing acidity). This 2018 Rosé is comprised of equal parts Syrah and Carignane tethered by a smidge of dry Riesling. The wine shows off aromas of cherry blossoms, orange peel and fresh bread—a flashy prelude to a dry, crisp palate. It pairs well with a multitude of flavors, or even just conversation.
2017 Santa Barbara Pinot Noir:
As we like to make this wine, it’s thirst slaking, food-friendly and demands a refill. Nine months in French oak is a few months shorter than for our single vineyard wines, and that helps us capture the wine when it skews toward fruit-filled and fun. It’s mostly younger vines at Bien Nacido providing the framework for this Pinot Noir, with a fraction of super coastal Puerta Del Mar fruit and a discreet but powerful contribution from Fe Ciega in Sta Rita Hills. When slightly chilled it can be a perfect red for summer BBQs.
